Have you ever felt that you are not really accomplishing your life’s purpose? You are not alone in that, so take a moment with me to reflect on a powerful truth found in Ephesians 2:10:
“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
Think about that word: handiwork. In the original Greek, it’s poiēma, which is where we get our word “poem.” You are God’s poem, a masterpiece crafted with intention and love in Christ Jesus. You are not an afterthought, a random occurrence. You are a deliberate creation, uniquely designed by the ultimate Artist.
And what is this beautiful creation for? To do good works. But here’s the truly amazing part: these good works aren’t something we have to strive and struggle to come up with on our own. God Himself has “prepared them in advance” for us.
Imagine a path laid out before you, not with burdens to bear, but with opportunities to reflect God’s love and grace in the world. These aren’t necessarily grand, world-changing acts, although they can be! They might be a kind word to a stranger, a helping hand to a neighbor, an act of service within your family, or simply living with integrity and love in your daily life.
Knowing that God has already prepared these works for us takes the pressure off and fills us with purpose. It reminds us that our lives have meaning beyond our own understanding. We are part of a divine plan, each of us with a specific role to play in His beautiful story.
So today, take heart! You are loved, you are valuable, and you have a purpose. Step into the good works God has prepared for you, knowing that you are His cherished handiwork.
What good work, big or small, do you feel God might be nudging you towards today? Share in the comments below and let’s encourage one another!
