We live in a world where the word “god” has become generic. People say, “We all serve the same god.” Others say, “As long as you believe in something.” But the truth is — our God is not a generic god.

📖 Exodus 3:13–15

“Then Moses said to God, ‘When I come to the children of Israel and say to them, “The God of your fathers has sent me to you,” and they say to me, “What is His name?” what shall I say to them?’ And God said to Moses, ‘I AM WHO I AM.’ … ‘This is My name forever, and this is My memorial to all generations.’”

Introduction:

Family, we live in a world where the word “god” has become generic. People say, “We all serve the same god.” Others say, “As long as you believe in something.” But the truth is — our God is not a generic god.

He is not an idea. Not a philosophy. Not an energy. He is the Living, Personal God — who speaks, who sees, who knows your name, and who walks with you. He’s not a distant being in the heavens; He’s a Father who draws near. He’s not a concept to be discussed; He’s a Person to be known.

🔥 Tell your neighbor: “He’s not generic — He’s personal!”

1️⃣ God Has a Name — and It Reveals His Nature

When Moses asked, “Who shall I say sent me?” God didn’t say, “I’m whatever you need me to be.” He said, “I AM WHO I AM.”

That name means:

  • I am self-existent — I depend on no one.
  • I am unchanging — I am the same yesterday, today, and forever.
  • I am personal — I make Myself known to My people.

📖 Isaiah 43:1

“Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are Mine.”

God is not some cosmic force — He’s a personal Redeemer who calls you by name. You are not a number to Him; you are known, loved, and chosen.

2️⃣ God Has a Covenant — Not a Crowd

Generic gods attract crowds who want blessings without relationship. But our God builds covenant, not convenience.

📖 Deuteronomy 7:9

“Know therefore that the LORD your God is God; He is the faithful God, keeping His covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love Him.”

He doesn’t just want worshippers — He wants sons and daughters. He doesn’t just bless; He walks with those who belong to Him. From Abraham to David, from Mary to you — His pattern is always personal covenant.

He says, “I will be your God, and you will be My people.”

3️⃣ God Has Standards — Not Suggestions

The gods of this world are convenient — they say, “Do what feels right.” But the personal God calls us into holiness because He loves us.

📖 1 Peter 1:15–16

“But as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct.”

A generic god won’t correct you. But a personal God disciplines those He loves (Hebrews 12:6). He’s not trying to control you — He’s transforming you into His image.

4️⃣ God Has Power — Not a Placeholder

The gods of this age are powerless — idols made by human hands. But our God answers by fire.

📖 1 Kings 18:39

“When all the people saw this, they fell prostrate and cried, ‘The LORD — He is God!’”

Elijah didn’t call on a generic deity; he called on the personal God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, and heaven responded. He’s not symbolic — He’s supernatural. He’s not a memory — He’s manifesting power. He heals, saves, restores, and still moves today.

5️⃣ God Has Glory — And He Shares It With No One

Generic gods share the spotlight. But the living God says:

📖 Isaiah 42:8

“I am the LORD; that is My name! I will not give My glory to another or My praise to idols.”

He is not one among many — He is the One and Only. He deserves exclusive worship, not casual acknowledgment. When you truly know Him personally, worship stops being routine — it becomes reverence and fire. You don’t worship out of obligation; you worship out of relationship.

6️⃣ God Is Personal — He Knows You, Sees You, and Dwells in You

This is what makes Him unlike any other god — He’s personal.

📖 Psalm 139:1–4

“O LORD, You have searched me and known me. You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought afar off.”

The God of the Bible isn’t waiting for you to find Him — He came looking for you! In Jesus Christ, the invisible God became visible.

📖 John 1:14

“The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us.” That’s not generic — that’s deeply personal. He didn’t send a messenger; He came Himself.

Conclusion:

Our God is not a generic god. He’s not distant, indifferent, or abstract. He is the Great I AM, and He desires to be known personally by His people. He knows your name. He knows your pain. He knows your purpose.

And He says, “I am with you always.”

🔥 Declare it:

“My God is not a generic god — He is a personal God, the Great I AM, who knows me, loves me, and walks with me!”

Closing Prayer:

“Father, thank You that You are not a concept but a covenant-keeping God. You are not distant but near. You are not generic but deeply personal. Reveal Yourself afresh to us — speak our names, stir our hearts, and let Your presence be real in our lives. We declare today: You are our God, and we are Your people. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
