Have you ever caught yourself replaying a conversation in your head, wishing you’d said something kinder, something more helpful? I know I have! Today, a verse from Ephesians has been gently nudging my heart:

Ephesians 4:29 (NIV) “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.”

It’s such a simple yet profound reminder, isn’t it? Our words have power. They can either tear down or lift up. They can leave a sting or bring a soothing balm. This verse isn’t about being perfect or never making a mistake. It’s about intention, about cultivating a heart that desires to speak life into every situation and every person we encounter.

Think about it, a word of encouragement to someone feeling down, a genuine compliment to someone who’s poured their heart into something, a gentle and truthful response in a moment of conflict. These are the kinds of words the apostle Paul encourages us to use.

Words that build others up, that meet a need, that leave the listener feeling a little bit better, a little more seen, a little more loved. It’s a challenge, for sure! Especially when we’re feeling frustrated, tired, or even a little bit grumpy. But in those moments, maybe we can take a little pause. A little breath. And ask ourselves: “Will these words build up or tear down? Will they bring benefit or harm?”

Let’s strive today to be mindful of the words we choose. Let’s aim to be conduits of kindness, speaking words that reflect the love and grace we’ve been so freely given. May our conversations be filled with encouragement, our responses seasoned with grace, and our tongues used to build up those around us.

Have a blessed day! May your words be a source of light and encouragement to everyone you meet.
